DAY 1
After checking into your hotel for the next 2 nights you are off to Stone Mountain to have dinner at the Stone Mountain Inn. While there you will be able to view the carving on Stone Mountain. The carving is so large that you could set a banquet inside the mouth of one of the horses. It is a sight to behold. (D)
DAY 2
You are going down to the land of the book “Gone With the Wind”. Did you ever wonder if any of the people in that book were real. Well, you will find out today. You will meet your guide, most knowledgeable on all things Margaret Mitchell and “Gone With the Wind”. You will visit, while in Jonesboro, a Confederate Cemetery, “Mr. Kennedy’s” Store, the site of Melanie’s home, locations of the birth of Mellies baby. Your guide will take you one to Fayetteville to visit Fayetteville Academy where “Scarlett” attended school; visit the Margaret Mitchell Library and the Fayetteville cemetery where the real “Mr. & Mrs. O’Hara and their Mammy are buried. Then it is back to Atlanta and the New World Of Coca Cola before having dinner at Mary Mac’s. (B, D)
DAY 3
After breakfast and loading the bus, there is one more stop to make. And that is the park like setting of the Oakland Historic Cemetery for a guided tour – Tiffany stain glass windows, famous and infamous all alike make a great Atlanta story to end your visit to the land of the red earth trail. (B)
