Mt. Airy (otherwise known a Mayberry USA) to the sand dunes of the Kitty Hawk
DAY 1
Depart Charlotte, NC airport to Winston-Salem hotel, dinner this evening at local restaurant. (D)
DAY 2
Today you will explore Old Salem and “find yourself in another time & place”. This town was born from the Moravian commitment to create utopian communities where people lived together in harmony. You will have time to visit the Toy Museum, Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts. Old Salem features woodworking, pewter molding, tin smithing, gun smithing pottery and other trades of the 18th and 19th centuries. Return to hotel freshen up before depart of The Barn Dinner Theater. (B, D)
DAY 3
Remember the TV show “Mayberry” – you are off to the town that inspired the show and where Andy Griffin grew up. Your step-on guide will point out all those familiar places and give you time to have “Barney Fife’s favorite sandwich”. Sit back and relax as you travel from the hills country to the oceanfront on your drive to the Outer Banks. Dinner tonight will be at your hotel then listen to the waves along the shore. (B, D)
DAY 4
First thing, this morning, you will enjoy the view from the bus, as you drive down to one of the most famous lighthouses in the country – Cape Hatteras. The drive is will afford you a view of both sides of the islands at one time. Heading back north, you will make a stop at Festival Park and learn about “The Lost Colony”, then on you Kitty Hawk and the Wright Bros. National Memorial, where the first flight took place. This evening you will check into your Virginia Beach waterfront hotel. (B, D)
DAY 5
Meet your guide and its off you go - to view the US largest navel base – Norfolk, where enlisted personal will serve as you guide for you windshield tour. Visit St. Paul’s church from Revolutionary War days. After free time at MacArthur Center Mall, it is off to Doumar’s home of the original Ice Cream Cone Making Machine – Oh yes you get to taste. After freshening up at hotel enjoy a dinner cruise in the Norfolk Harbor. (B, D)
DAY 6
You drive back to Charlotte, NC today – but before checking into your hotel, you will enjoy the “NASCAR” tour. Visit Hendricks Motorsports, Action Performance and maybe a drive on the Charlotte Speedway. Check into hotel before having dinner. (B, D)

Depart for home (B)
